Remove Startup Programs in Windows

From a run box type 'msconfig' and select the Startup Tab. Uncheck the applications you wish to stop from loading with windows.

Uninstall Internet Explorer 9

Click the Start button Picture of the Start button, type Programs and Features in the search box, and then click View installed updates in the left pane.

Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.

Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes.

Check and delete if you find any other anti-virus software installed in add/remove programs and C:/program files and common files.

Click start – run then type services.msc, In the window that opens up check whether the start up type for all the McAfee programs are in started and Automatic. If not click on the particular service, select Properties, and change it to "Automatic."

Click on the recovery tab (at the top) and select all three failures to be Restart the service. Click OK.

Close all open programs and restart the computer, and then try to update McAfee.

Remove Windows Live Messenger from Start Up

Sign on to windows live messenger.
Click the down arrow that lets you select online, busy, away, etc. and go to the bottom and select "options."
Choose the "general" tab.
Un-check the box beside, "Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows.
Click the 'Accept' button.

Delete a User Profile in Windows XP

If you have user profiles on your computer that you no longer need, you free up disk space by deleting these unused profiles. To do this:

Right-click My Computer and select Properties to bring up the System Properties panel.
Click the Advanced tab and then, in the User Profiles area, click the Settings button.
From the User Profile dialog box select the individual profile you want to delete.
Click the Delete button and confirm the action.
Click OK.

Please note that User profiles can contain files that you may need. It is a good practice to review the directory and backup any needed files before deleting the profile.
